  2. make early books included leaves, bark,
  3. linen, silk, clay, leather, and papyrus. In
  4. about AD 100-150, the codex or paged book, as
  5. opposed to the roll or scroll, began to be
  6. adopted. Vellum was generally used for book
  7. pages by the beginning of the 4th century,
  8. and its use lasted until the 15th, when it
  9. was superseded by paper. Books only became
  10. widely available after the invention of the
  11. printing press in the 15th century. Printed
  12. text is also reproduced and stored in
  13. microform.
